Property in Guernsey
Property in Guernsey is divided into a local market for qualifying residents and holders of a housing license and an open market. This is done because of the high population density and small size of the Guernsey. Find lists properties in both the open and local markets.
The properties that are not listed within the open market housing register may only be occupied by qualified residents , or license holders. Guernsey's right to work law requires that employed people, including self-employed, must hold a valid "right to work document", indicating that they are lawfully housed. Therefore, in order to work in Guernsey you must either be a qualified resident or license holder living in a local market property; or living in an open market property as either the owner, or as a tenant.
Residents are qualified based on a number of criteria which can be found on the States of Guernsey website, while housing licenses are issued on either a short term basis, or to people with skills essential to Guernsey.
