Three boys plucked from a rock
Three boys plucked from a rock
And a busy night when 11 off duty staff are called in for cliff rescue…
Three 15 year old boys were rescued from rocks just off Portinfer in
Guernsey after dark Sunday night.
They were stranded on rocks – The Grand Saut Rocher, a quarter of a
mile from shore in very cold conditions.
They spent an hour in the water after they fell from their kayaks
before climbing onto the rocks, they were then able to call the
emergency services from a mobile phone.
The rescue services were called out at about 5:30. It was a very busy
night for the rescue services, about an hour later they were then
called out to to handle a cliff rescue where a 38 year old visitor
became stuck in the undergrowth on the east side of Saints Bay at St
Martins.
The man climbed from the beach up the cliffs and became stuck for two
hours, luckily a friend raised the alarm. The man was tired and very
cold but well.
That evening 11 off-duty ambulance personnel had to be called in to
help with the inshore kayak rescue and the man who got stuck on the
cliffs, they either helped the on-duty staff or acted as cover whilst
the on-duty staff were busy.
Rescues often stretch the emergency ervices but two at either ends of
the island in remote positions early in the morning as well as
continuing to provide emergency ambulance and paramedic cover had been
very challenging, said senior officer John Atkins.
